Auditor General of Seychelles has been appointed to the Board of Auditors (BOA) of SADC institutions for a three-year term effective from 2026. Seychelles will assume the chair of BOA in 2028. The BOA is constituted as the external audit body in line with article 29 of SADC treaty, and mandated to audit the headquarters, other organs and satellite offices of the regional body. The types of audits that BOA is mandated to perform include financial, performance and IT audits. In addition, BOA may consider performing special investigations at the request of SADC council of ministers. BOA reports the results of its audits to the SADC council of ministers through the audit committee.
Established under Article 14(1) of SADC Treaty in 1992, SADC has a membership of 16 countries including Seychelles. SADC is mandated to promote regional integration, peace and security, and socio‑economic development for the benefit of its member countries. While the executive powers of the regional body are vested in the office of the Executive Secretary, deputy executive secretaries and directorates, the governance and oversight functions rest with the council of ministers, audit committee, finance committee, internal audit and risk management committee and the board of auditors.
In this regard, Auditor General is appreciative of the continuous support and co-operation extended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora.
